When Tadd Cortell and Michael Byrnes wanted to launch Monarch here in San Francisco, they came to One Hat One Hand to mastermind their interior design.
Our mission was to transform a former dance club into a swanky lounge. One Hat One Hand pulled out all the stops on this one. We had three of our artists conceptualize and design unique elements for the new bar. Monarch gave us extensive creative control, and it shows in the end product.
A few of the highlights are the light fixtures, the chandelier, made from old brass trumpet, trombone, and tuba parts; a copper entryway divider with insect specimen clips and magnifying glasses; a round cut-out behind the bar where aerialists perform, visible from both rooms in the bar; and a CNC-cut wood design for the walls in the motif of a monarch butterfly.
