Outside Lands

In 2018, we were asked to create key elements for the annual Golden Gate park music festival, Outside Lands.  Year after year, One Hat One Hand has installed an ever-growing portfolio of infrastructure, large scale sculptures, and wayfinding signage. These giant mushrooms welcomed visitors, distorting the perception of the viewer by playing with scale.  The installation became interactive through proximity sensors within the mushrooms to trigger changes in the sounds and ambient lighting when people walked closer.

The fabrication balanced the design intent with durability and engineering needs. Our Integrated Tech department programmed sound and lighting effects were programmed to keep these focal points entertaining throughout the day and night. From hand-carving the foam, to sewing the gills, to high-end finishing, the artistry of our fabricators shines through in this whimsical centerpiece.

With many years of experience in difficult space activations, our team is well-equipped to install on-site in the short amount of time leading up to a festival. We seamlessly  worked with the event producers to ensure a timely and safe delivery and installation of this showstopping piece as well as a detailed plan for its yearly installation and storage procedures.
